It was raining kind of heavy. Gray sky. It seemed like it was made of platinum. It reminded me to the enchanted foggy mornings of Lima. In the middle of all the mess, the situation had certain kind of beauty. I was inside of a humble 2009 Hyundai Accent (yes, my car). I decided that if I wasn’t going to be able to do the things I planned at least I could have an enjoyable time of solitude (not really comfortable saying this because it sounds too hipster for my taste but I’ll use for the lack of a better description)
I took the picture above from the inside of a towing truck. It was $110 for a ride of 11 miles. My car stopped working while I was on my way to a Live Sound Engineering workshop. Needless to say that I never made it.
I had my whole day kind of planned out. Some piano practice in the morning, then the workshop at 11, later homework from school and then work on my album after mixing the tracks of the upcoming Touch Combo (my fusion project) album.
Just like that all my day was thrown to the trash because my car decided to stop and ask for $200 just because he felt like it. I spent at least 2 hours between calling the insurance and towing companies to get things done, including the waiting time on hold.
I had been thinking of the title of my album. It is very personal but I don’t want to be isolated. Been there, done that. I Don’t like it. On my way home with my Accent being carried by towing truck it just came to me. It was literally in front of me. The trucks mirrors usually have a sentence that warns drivers near by that if they can see each other through the mirrors then the truck driver won’t be able to see their car neither. “When I don’t see you” !. That was it. I can take the liberty to use unconventional chord progressions, melodies, lyrics, sound FX, anything I think will make me connect to the listeners. So we can see each other, don’t stay in isolation and don’t crash. Some days are not as unproductive as you initially believe think. Sometimes. Thanks rain. I still need to figure how I am gonna fix my car. My compilation of music games have been waiting. Time to push that. Thanks music, you keep me sor rounded by people. That’s a good thing.
